Little Rock Pest Animal Trapping Tip of the Month:
How to Get Rid of Little Rock Birds
The earlier you attempt to get Little Rock birds away from your home the better. Here are some humane ways to get rid of birds and make sure they stay away. More often than not you will need to use a combination of methods to get rid of birds. Birds are smart and determined creatures of habit.

Repel
Setting up plastic replicas of other animals on the porch and around the yard is a good way to keep birds away from your house. Hawks, owls, snakes and coyotes are all good options for naturally repelling birds. But remember to move the replicas around so the birds do not get used to the one location. Inflatable pool toys can help keep birds out of the backyard. Nontoxic chemical repellents feel very uncomfortable on an Arkansas bird’s feet and body. Nontoxic taste repellents make it impossible for a bird to eat crops such as beans, grains or fruits. There are also devices that make loud noises in order to scare birds away. These loud noises include sirens, cats, dogs and owls. Thorns and nets are good for keeping large birds, such as pigeons, away. Motion activated sprinklers are also a good way to get rid of birds and are readily available at your nearest garden store.

Trap and Relocate Contact your local Animal Control office to rent or borrow a bird trap. You can also buy a rectangular or circular shaped wire caged bird trap that has funnel shaped door openings. Place the traps around your house and check them every day. When a bird is caught, take it to a secluded and non-residential area and set it free. Create your own backyard Little Rock bird trap using a mousetrap, a cardboard box and some string. Bait the trap with bread or birdseed. Leave the trap alone for 6 to 12 hours. After the trap falls, check to see if you caught a bird. To get the bird, grab it firmly by the body or drape a pillowcase over it. Gently put the bird in the cardboard box and put the lid on right away. Place the boxed bird in a quiet, dark area and contact a local wildlife rehabilitator. They are specially trained to care for caught birds and can tell you what to do next. Birth Control This method may seem odd or even funny, but some communities and businesses are using birth control pills, such as OvoControl P, to reduce the population of Arkansas birds such as pigeons, Canada geese and Muscovy ducks. The pill is added to the bird food on rooftop feeders and disrupts the development of new bird eggs. Residents of Hollywood, California began using this bird control method in 2007. This method is supported by the Humane Society of the United States and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the Audubon Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The use of OvoControl to control the bird population is approved in every state except New Hampshire.
